Programme Note

Commissioned by the Pro Arte Guitar Trio, this three-movement work explores many different textural and timbral possibilities from this versatile and colourful instrumental ensemble. The first movement contrasts dance-like material with more contemplative, lyrical ideas, while the second is a slow movement with a more impassioned central section. The fugal finale culminates in a short reprise of the opening of the first movement.
